The Mother of God "Of the Sign" is depicted in this mounted icon in the Jordanville tradition. The great Oranta type — showing the Theotokos with upraised hands and the Christ Emmanuel appearing as a medallion on her breast — is one of the most ancient and theologically profound of all Theotokos iconographic types. A quality icon from Damascene Gallery.
