Christ, "Golden Hair" - Original - icon279 - 12 inch

The original 'Golden Hair' type of Christ the Savior comes from the ancient Novgorod school of Russian iconography — one of the supreme centers of medieval Russian sacred art. This pre-20th-century example in the Novgorod tradition presents the Lord with the characteristic bold simplicity and spiritual directness of that school, His golden hair a symbol of divine light and uncreated glory. A Damascene Gallery mounted icon after the Novgorod masters — a treasure of the ancient Russian iconographic tradition for any Orthodox home.
