Cat. #000856: WILLIAM CASTLE

Extremely rare and just outstanding vintage inscribed blue ballpoint pen signature, given on the verso of a 10x8-inch black and white still for 1961's Homicidal, adding the name of the film above his autograph. In good condition, with very slightly uneven ink adhesion and a few minor handling dings. William Castle, that great, eccentric director of low-budget horror films, is remembered for horror, sci-fi and fantasy flicks like House on Haunted Hill (1958) and Rosemary's Baby (1968). Like a latter-day P.T Barnum, upon whom he modeled himself, he lured moviegoers by appearing in trailers and psyching up viewers to be frightened out of their wits. Many of his films were advertised by way of outrageous gimmicks, such as an insurance policy against death by fright for Macabre (1957) and literally shocking people using wired seats during The Tingler (1959).
